Band
Students in our senior classes are chosen to participate in our Band program. The children reinforce the skills learnt on their instruments (keyboards, bass, guitar, drums, vocals), learn how to read simple sheet music, rehearse songs chosen by the band, and perform later in the year to both small and large audiences.
Practicing instruments at home, during recess, lunch or after school will be a mandatory requirement in this special activity. Children will learn how to cooperate and work together as a group of very different individuals, they will develop listening skills, diplomacy and leadership skills.
They will be required to dedicate some hours out of school time to learn lyrics and chords to songs to perform in front of a range of different audiences. Instrument sessions for future band recruits in grades 3&4 are also offered.
Dedicated and hardworking students will continue to learn throughout the year as they strive to join the band in the following years. Other students will enjoy the experience of learning an instrument with the intention of taking up this skill in the future.
Choir
At FEPS grade 3-6 children have the opportunity to participate in the school choir. This group meets at lunchtime each Tuesday throughout the year to enjoy the art of singing and performing.
As the year progresses the children will have the opportunity to sing to a variety of audiences and will learn to work cooperatively as a large group with similar interests. The school choir perform at our yearly whole school production and end of year Christmas concert as well as occasional community events.
FEAST
One of the most exciting events on our school calendar is FEAST, our annual whole school performance. Each year, every class takes to the stage to share a special performance for families and friends to enjoy. With a new theme each year, the songs, dances and creative pieces are always full of colour, energy and imagination. Our talented choir and school band also showcase their musical skills, making FEAST a true celebration of our students’ creativity and teamwork.
FEAST is much more than just a performance, it’s an opportunity for every student to step outside their comfort zone, work together and experience the thrill of performing in front of an audience. Being on stage helps students build confidence, resilience and self-expression, as well as developing skills in communication, cooperation and perseverance.
The pride and joy on students’ faces as they take their final bow says it all. FEAST brings our school community together and reminds us how powerful the performing arts can be in helping children grow, not only as learners, but as confident, capable individuals ready to shine.
